Pot-belly, the finest pub that Canberra has to offer, especially when just Lyle, myself and some dude playing guitar on stage are the only people inside it. Things started going downhill around the 5th or 6th beer, when we began screaming the lyrics to “Am I not pretty enough?” by Kasey Chambers over the top of the dude trying to sing… He couldn’t even play Better Man, I mean, whats a man have to do to hear some Better Man?
The tradition of better man started in the Pheonix bar, where we yelled “PLAY BETTER MAN” at the end of every song the band was playing, and when they DID play it… “Booooo”. Since that night, every live band I see gets a heckling.
Down to business, the quiet 3 beers planned had rolled into 10 quite quickly, the bar was empty except for lyle and myself, yelling at this singer, calling his mum names etc, better head off to play some pool in the city.
We rock up to Toast, and after some negotiating, get inside on a discount cover charge, and head to the pool tables. Lyle has decided that he needs to go to the bathroom, and comes back 10 minutes later wiping his mouth… Suspicious to say the least… Either he has thrown up, or just had “a good time”, I offer him some of the cheese flavoured chips I had bought, he grabs one, puts it in his mouth, then… 3, 2, 1, sprints back to the bathroom.
During this entire time, we had been playing a game of pool, and inbetween his fall from grace, he had somehow beaten me. Some girl with hair that looked like a cooked casserol moved closer to the table, and we decided to leave to get some food.
In conclusion, today I have a headache, Lyle is on MSN typing about his shakey hands, and my clothes smell like a chicken cooked in an ashtray.
